BBC One is a popular television channel in the United Kingdom which is run by the British Broadcasting Corporation and was responsible for most first-time runs of the Wallace & Gromit series since 1989.

History[]

It has existed since 1936, and closed down for 6 years between 1939 and 1945 while World War II was active.

It was known as "BBCtv" until 1964, when the channel gained a sister channel, BBC2, and was renamed to "BBC1" as a result of this. The channel name was renamed again in 1997 to "BBC One", just like BBC2, which was renamed to "BBC Two" along with BBC One's name change.

This channel is available on all licensed television platforms in the United Kingdom, and as of 2010, the channel is now available in HD under most television platforms which hold the channel under the name of "BBC One HD".
