Born to Play was a toy company known for releasing soft toys of the Wallace & Gromit characters. They stopped in 1998 due to the fact that the latest short film was 1995.
History[]
Born to Play first released plushies of Wallace and Gromit to promote a A Grand Day Out. They made a standard Wallace and a standing Gromit. Later they ended up rereleasing the two when The Wrong Trousers released, also releasing Feathers McGraw. They also did a promotional set with Wallace in the Techno Trousers and Gromit in a rain coat.
A few years later, the plushies returned to market when A Close Shave came out with an added Wendolene, Shaun and Preston. They also now had hand-bags and backpacks in the shape of either Shaun or Gromit. A Wendolene in black clothing and a Wallace dressed in his overalls were also released.
In 1998, the plushies were discontinued due to the latest short film being A Close Shave in 1995.
Trivia[]
- In the Cracking Contraptions short "The Tellyscope", a spoof of BBC 2's famous test card F can be seen for a split second on the Tellyscope after the remote is used in the contraption. It thus features Shaun with a Wallace soft toy that bears a striking resemblance to the plushies of him made by Born to Play.
