Peter Hawkins was originally going to be the voice of Gromit in A Grand Day Out, before the concept of Gromit being able to speak was scrapped by Nick Park.[1][2] His recordings as Gromit are currently lost media, possibly forever.[3]
Hawkins passed away on July 8, 2006.
