The "Wallace & Gromit Theme" is the theme song of Wallace & Gromit heard frequently throughout the franchise, beginning with A Grand Day Out, and mainly at the beginning and end. The piece of music was written by Julian Nott, the composer of the franchise.
History[]
During the post-production of A Grand Day Out, it was one of the last pieces Nott wrote for the film, according to him.
The instrumental piece rarely has any official name, although it is featured in two different tracks in the soundtrack of Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit entitled as "A Grand Day Out" and "Wallace & Gromit". Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, which Nott did not solely score, refers to it in the credits as "Wallace & Gromit Theme".
Wallace hums the theme song in the beginning of the Cracking Contraptions episode "The Bully Proof Vest" and scats it in the beginning of "The Turbo Diner".
Two diegetic uses of the theme song are heard in Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl; the first as chiptune music for the sprite animation of Wallace's secret files and the second as piano music being slowly played by a depressed Wallace. The latter is accompanied by sheet music titled "Quattro Formaggi", an Italian pizza with four cheeses.
Trivia[]
- The song was used to wake up astronauts aboard the STS-132 in 2010.
- The England football supporters are considering making the song their theme, instead of The Great Escape.
- Coincidentally, all in-universe diegetic occurrences of the theme seem to be initiated in some way by Wallace.
